How we teach

At BLC, we teach English in a communicative way. This means that you will learn English in an active and engaging environment, with plenty of opportunities for you to practice what you are learning. Our teachers are well qualified and experienced, and will give you all the support you need to improve your English.

We use a range of authentic material such as music, video, newspapers, radio and the internet, to help you understand and use real English. You will learn with students from all over the world, which means you will learn about other cultures, and at the same time, you will have to speak English with your classmates.

Our Teachers

All BLC teachers are qualified and experienced. All BLC teachers hold a minimum of a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL qualification. Many have studied Teaching English as a Foreign Language to a higher Diploma or Masters level, holding additional DELTA, Trinity DipTESOL and MA qualifications.

Course Timetable

General English courses take place in the morning, and are made up of 20 lessons of 45 minutes per week( a total of 15 hours per week, 3 hours per day).

Lesson 1 and 2 (9.15 – 10.45)

Using a course book, the lesson will focus on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Track your progress with Friday’s short test, which is based on the work covered during the week’s classes. You will have a weekly individual tutorial.

Lesson 3 and 4 (11.00 – 12.30)

After the break, make the best of the skills lesson with the opportunity to practise speaking, listening, reading and writing.  Benefit from flexible content based around the your needs and requests.  You can let the teacher know which topics and language points you would like to study in these sessions.

You could, for example, ask to do work on improving your pronunciation, practising role plays for  life and work in an English speaking country, listening and reading from authentic sources such as the radio or TV, or learning to use natural English phrases and idioms in your speaking and writing.

How is the course assessed?

Your teacher will give you some homework every day, so you can practice what you have learnt in the lessons. Textbook activities to improve your vocabulary, or written work to develop your grammar will be part of your daily routine.

You will be given an individual study plan on our online platform, BLC Anytime, and you will be able to track your progress through regular tutorials with your teacher.

Every week, you can check your improvement with the Friday test, and if you want to know your exact level on departure, you can choose to take an exit test.

You will receive a certificate and report on your level, progress and attendance when you finish the course.
