"On 9th February I was delighted to attend the Quality English and BELTA Scholarship Award Ceremony and Agent Workshop in São Paulo. After a year working for BLC, it was a unique opportunity to represent our school in my home country.
BELTA (Brazilian Educational & Language Travel Association) together with Quality English had the brilliant idea of providing scholarships to teachers of public education in Brazil to study English abroad, and as soon as BLC got to know about the initiative, we jumped on board. On the first day of event I had the pleasure of meeting the winner of BLC's scholarship – her name is Natália as well, and she is an English teacher in a public school in the state of São Paulo. We had the chance to talk and get to know each other a bit - she was really excited to come to Bristol and wanted to know everything about the city and school, and was brilliant to be able to meet her in person and show how excited we are to be able to offer the scholarship and welcome her to BLC family. We truly hope that she has the best experience of her life with us.
Speaking about the event, QE Chief Executive, Jonathan Swindell said, "The idea was to offer a life-changing opportunity to teachers across Brazil who might not have otherwise had the opportunity to experience overseas study. The response was huge and we had a hard task choosing the winners. We hope that they will have a fantastic time at their QE school and return to work full of new ideas and skills".
Maura Leao, President of BELTA, added, "The emotion we all felt seeing the shine in all teacher's eyes when receiving their scholarships , is hard to describe. They were genuinely happy. Actually, we all were too. QE and Belta joined forces and QE schools were greatly generous to be on board of this project giving 14 scholarships to English teachers from Public Schools . They teach mostly underprivileged students. Our minds and souls were deeply touched. We have a great reason to keep doing what we do: promote intercultural Education across borders. Thank you very much, QE and schools."
After an amazing first day of event, on the second day expectations were high: the QE Agent Workshop consisted of a day of meetings between schools and agents in order to provide them information about the school and location. After working for 4 years as an education agent in Brazil, I’m now on the other side of the table, providing the training to agents.
The event exceeded all my expectations – I’ve met incredible people, extremely capable professionals and I got to share a bit of my life’s experience living in Bristol. Even though it was supposed to be a long day, full of meetings, time flew by as I introduced BLC to local agents and explained why Bristol is such a great destination for Brazilian students. It was also an incredible opportunity to hear and learn more about each individual and each particularity of the agencies, which helps me to grow as a professional and BLC to grow as a company and be able to provide excellent customer service to our partners and students."
