The BLC Summer is always such a busy time that it comes as a sudden surprise when you find that the Junior Summer Programme is over already – time flies when you’re having fun! This year, we welcomed a really diverse mix of junior students from Spain, China, Italy, Jordan, Czech Republic, Belgium, Switzerland, Iceland, Germany and France. Unlike previous years, the juniors took reign of the newly re-decorated 3rd floor of the BLC building where they studied English in the mornings. John and Jack were the activity leaders and took the juniors out on a busy activity programme in the afternoons which included local visits to Bristol Museum, Cabot Tower and Blaise Castle and trips to Bath, Cardiff, Oxford and London. The students also enjoyed some more relaxed activities such as bowling and shopping (perhaps aimed more at the girls!).
Being there every Monday morning to welcome the new arrivals of juniors, they all looked so nervous and shy. It is a great feeling to watch them become more confident as they make friends with the other students and get to know Bristol. As sad as it is to wave them off at the end of the programme, it is always nice to see their smiling faces and know that you have helped provide them with an unforgettable Summer trip away from home. I want to share with you my favourite quotation from a junior student from China who spent 3 weeks in Bristol; when asked ‘What would you like to change about the school, classes and afternoon activities?’, the student replied: “I think everything is perfect. Nothing can change my love to BLC!”.
